one of very few sprocket railways still operating it is able to climb quite step grades, through some very spectacular scenery of old deep forest and wild rivers. If you into trains at all, I would recommend this one.
Cradle Mountain offers world class bush walking from day walks to a couple of day trips to the overland track that takes a week.

If you are into diving you won't find better, many are put off by talk of cold water but with a thicker wetsuit you will see things that leave the barrier reef for dead Forteseque bay offers an easy grade dive through massive kelp forests Port Arthur offers a straight forward horseshoe cave dive at ~15m depth (I did this on my certification dive many years ago and still remember how good it was. With water viability far beyond anything I've seen diving the great barrier reef.
In Hobart itself there are river cruises, scenic flights, you can do a day sail on the Lady Nelson an old square rigger, there's a jet boat that does trips to Bruny Is. You can go to Cadbury Chocolate Factory, I don't think they do the tour anymore but you can watch the videos and then have access to the shop that sells very cheap rejects from their range.
Other popular tourist spots around the Hobart region are Richmond (convict jail), The Channel and Huon a fruit production region, Port Arthur, Mt Field National Park (good chance of seeing a platypus in the small stream that leads up to Russell falls) there is also the Salmon ponds which is on the way to Mt Field.
